Look down flying into Ladakh and you will see an ocean of high desert mountains. Travelling through the arid high desert country requires vans, skilled drivers, and over mountain passes (to 18,000 feet). One can only visit for two summer months, June through August, because Ladakh is snowed in the rest of the year.

The last place on earth where Tibetans live freely, our last visit we didn’t expect to spend a couple of days talking with a monk who had been imprisoned by the Chinese government and escaped three times. Later he became the chief chanter of His Holiness, the Dalai Lama.

The Tibetan Children’s Education Foundation is supporting the building of an auditorium at Rainbow Elementary School and a remodel of Jam Lin Yang School. Proceeds of the Ladakh photographs go to the Tibetan Children’s Education Foundation.
