September. A solid month of teaching, practicing, September.

A solid month of teaching, practicing, writing ✍️ and riding 🚴‍♂️ and hanging with my dogs ALOT.

The two younger ones just finished what we call “boarding school” (serious training), and living with three golden retrievers is wow full on, but the love is insane and worth all of it. They teach me so much. Mostly patience. 😂

Noell Clark and I are in the middle of our tenth year training a wonderful new group of soon-to-be yoga teachers. We’ve watched ourselves grow right alongside everyone we work with. It’s great and I continue to feel very lucky.

I rode 🚴‍♂️ around Lake Tahoe at September’s beginning - something I have wanted to do - and have been planning the year ahead, filled with teaching and boatloads of travel, beginning Saturday as we take a group to Morocco.

While the news continues to be mostly absolute garbage, “it’s only castles burning…” I’ve been thinking about how easy it is to postpone the things we care about most, as though there will be a better time.

“Ain’t no time like the present” is the road I’m on.
The mantra? Now is the time.

Am challenging myself to see what would be involved in the inside job of having the best October of my life. I offer you that invitation as well.

Love to you wherever you are.🐾

P.s.
Yes, I am over on Substack sending you long-form content on whatever happens to be on - and in - my heart. 💗 Happy to have you join me over there.

Farewell August. On the outside, home with famil Farewell August.

On the outside, home with family, taking and enjoying classes at the studio, writing what has become a regular Substack on what currently moves me (thanks to those following & took YEARS to develop a steady writing pace for which I’m thankful), recording and creating videos for a “collection of works,” meaning every yoga and meditation practice I have come to care about like friends over all these years, dogs dogs dogs and riding the bike, the latest ride up Mt. Hamilton (yes, there was some e-assist in that experience).

On the inside, my attention is with those in Nepal, Tibet, with my mom, my son and his new life, the future of AI and climate crisis, the precipice we appear to be standing on as a country and yes, Gaza.

How does a person support goodness with a capital G the best they can is an ongoing inquiry.

That’s the full weather report in my neighborhood. What’s the weather like in your’s?

Thank you August for all your heartbreaking beauty and complexity. Let’s see what happens next.

I have the honor of being featured in Polo Lifesty I have the honor of being featured in Polo Lifestyle Magazine’s Women + Power issue alongside remarkable women including Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Taylor Swift, MacKenzie Scott, Claudia Sheinbaum, Dolores Huerta, and many others.

My first thought was, I don’t belong on this list.

I then learned the writer was moved by the work we’ve been doing together—my colleagues, teachers, staff, and every person who has walked through the doors of Breathe Together over the years.

Life has a way of surprising us. You never know what’s going to happen next.

Every day I am grateful to everyone who has practiced, taught, learned, questioned, grown, laughed, moved, and yes, breathed with us.

Thank you, Polo Lifestyles, for this unexpected honor!

A reminder that our actions often travel much farther than we imagine……

It was a big weekend full of exciting adventures. It was a big weekend full of exciting adventures. You were likely part of that. ♥️

Will and I saw our son perform an album he wrote about the death of our first dog Hobbes. Then Liam graduated from UCSD, beginning a new chapter.

I completed the Pacific Highway bike ride from San Diego to the border, which was postponed last week because the person who made that trip possible is from Colombia and once we reached San Diego, concerns mounted over such a strong military presence despite having perfectly clean paperwork (it’s a weird time).

Enclosed is the border wall itself. I hope to write a piece on “migration” and “immigration” over on Substack soon, as well as a recap of the entire amazing 🚴 experience.

The Pacific Highway trip completes a three year chapter of becoming the person I’d need to be to do it.

The experience thrust me into a whole new set of questions around what more is possible. Who we say we are has alot to do with what we learned when we were young. I have strong aspirations to break out of other boxes I’ve fabricated a long time ago evidently without knowing it.

And it was my birthday, 64 times around the sun.

My dad made a point of distancing himself from those who diminished their potential - or his - with “age related discussions.” I understand why now. He joyfully worked six days a week, until at 81, closed his office and left his body a month later.

I am not interested in being limited by age, so if you want to talk or comment on it anywhere near me, you may notice I quietly “exit stage right.” At this time I have no interest in diminishing my aliveness in any way, shape or form.

I do intend to be a great deal more expressive about how I see things I’ve cared about a long time, not entirely limited to yoga and meditation, because while they are central to everything I do, there is more to this story. In any case, find me over on Substack for spontaneous reflections on whatever I feel like because I have finally granted myself that opportunity.

Thank you for fully dousing me with your 🎂 love. May freedom reign in and around us.

Last I wrote, we were headed south by bicycle from Last I wrote, we were headed south by bicycle from Venice CA into, as I perceived it, one very extensive beach with different names; Long, Huntington. Redondo, Newport, Laguna. Then to Oceanside, & the bike route leads through Camp Pendleton.

At the gate we are stopped for ID. I’m riding with Rafa, an ultracyclist (MVP of navigation & bike repair) from Colombia and whose unique skillset quite frankly, makes this trip possible.

His paperwork is spot on, but as we know, these are strange times. The officer asks Rafa what city he is from. Bogota.

Turns out that the base is closed to cyclists because of the war. He escorts us to the only available route, seven miles on yes, Hwy 5 & quietly states that because he has a dog groomer friend in Bogota who is a really nice person, he won’t do a full background check on us. Feeling grateful to kind dog groomers everywhere! Friends are everything.

We promptly enter the world of HWY 5, a bit like a sideways shooting range, BUT am still here to tell the story.

In San Diego there were hugs, and moments with my cool kid who prepares for graduation and a move to LA and all that comes with that.

And then just like that, 600 miles later, the dream that lay before me now rests.

A couple years ago, I let this Pacific Coast dream lay to rest after fracturing my pelvis by bike. But my son was SURE I could still do it, so six months ago, to be fair to the evolution of our parent/child relationship, I took his words to heart. Sometimes he listens to me, sometimes I to him. Adulting.

I have alot I could say about keeping going, not giving up, being stronger than we realize, the journey being more important than the destination, age is just a number, if we can dream it do it, but all revelations are inside any Hallmark card. I’m quite sure though that we have a responsibility towards our joy. And that we are everything we’ve ever searched for.

Headed north by train reviewing from the window everything I’ve experienced and feeling tremendously lucky. Thanks for so much support along the way! Friends are everything!

There is what I call the middle part of California There is what I call the middle part of California from San Simeon south of Big Sur, to cute Cambria, Cayucos, Morro Bay, into the mountains at Los Osos, Guadalupe, & Santa Maria.

Many of those places consist of sprawling farms, broccoli, artichokes and cabbage litter the road. Farmland means more animals, many dead; (an odd amount of dead rattlesnakes, actually) raccoons, barn owls, and then crosses that human loved ones have erected to their loved ones who died in the very spot. Yes, it is quite easy to visualize oneself as roadkill. I try to not go there.

On two wheels, you are closer to those picking the vegetables and paving the roads, the people who consistently contribute to our lives and who may never hear a direct “thank you.”This time of year in these places the air often smells like strawberries. From the bike its easier to wave and say “good morning.”

Things change towards San Luis Obispo, into Santa Barbara, and Ventura with the force of the Pacific. Pass the military lands, over the Santa Monica mountains, into Malibu, which I found intense, given the fires that took out miles of homes right along the water, like two wheeling through part construction part memorial, while off the coast, dolphins and hawks do their thing. An osprey perches on a light poll in the middle of traffic. Life goes on, every one traveling through life the best way they know how.

I love California more than ever. I feel the same way about my legs. As long as there is fuel and the ability to not take one’s thoughts too seriously, they keep moving. I’m as surprised as anyone about it. For centuries our relatives got from here to there on their own power. I think we are made for it. Satisfaction nearly guaranteed.

Bikes are stellar inventions. A prequel to the airplane, the greatest emancipator of women, actually, and the easiest way to feel like one’s original self.

All this to say after a rest day in Venice my bike and I continue south. All is well.
